VA Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship

The West Los Angeles VA Medical Center of the Department of Neurology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, offers a one-to-two-year ACGME-accredited Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship. The program is flexible and offers opportunities in clinical training (integrated into the UCLA Clinical Neurophysiology training program) and opportunities for research during an optional second year, designed specifically for individuals interested in a career in academic neurology. The fellows will gain comprehensive experience in clinical neurophysiology, including routine EEG, LTM, medical/surgical aspects of Epilepsy, EPs, IOM, deep brain stimulation, and electives in sleep studies or EMG/NCS at the VA and UCLA. The fellows will participate in the VA seizure clinics and organize the weekly Neurology Grand Rounds conference at the VAMC.

Research opportunities include basic and clinical research in epilepsy. Fellows can also participate in one or more clinical training programs including intraoperative monitoring, EMGs, sleep, neurobehavior, or other programs being carried out elsewhere within the department, or within the Brain Research Institute. We encourage fellows to apply for VA and/or NIH Research Career Development Awards, which many of our past fellows have received.

Applicants must have completed a residency in adult or child neurology and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in the state of California. Applicants should send the Program Director, James Chen, M.D., Ph.D., and the director of the AGGME-accredited UCLA program, Marc Nuwer, M.D., Ph.D., a brief statement of their career goals, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation.
